Service Description

This training is designed for recreational paddlers looking to gain experience and skills for self guided multi-day sea kayak trips. In the classroom we'll learn how to navigate with chart and compass, gain a deeper understanding of tides (and how to use the Canadian Tide and Current Tables), and learn how weather affects sea state. We'll then apply these skills on the water as we journey, surf, play in tidal currents and plan an overnight trip! Paddle Canada Level 2 skills certification available. This program is two weekends in length (September 7th/8th, September 14th/15th). Training includes: - Pre-course online learning modules developed by our partners at Sea Kayak Instruction & Leadership Systems - 4 days (two weekends, "in person") sea kayak skills training with Candlebox Kayaking's experienced, highly certified, expert coaches - Time spent paddling various locations in Southwestern Nova Scotia - High quality equipment including drysuits by Kokatat, helmets, tow lines, charts for the areas paddled, chart cases, deck and hikers compasses, VHF radios - On land and on water navigation training using charts and compass, and in-depth risk assessment/mitigation training (weather, tides, sea state, preparedness, equipment, etc.) - Paddle Canada Sea Kayak Level 2 skills certification available What people are saying: "I was sent to Candlebox to further develop my kayak guide skills. Matt taught us how to edge, surf, navigate, roll, plan and rescue. After taking the course I feel much more confident in rougher waters and in my ability to rescue others. Matt is patient, (&) easy to learn from." - Ben, TripAdvisor Time: Meet at 8:30am the first day of the training Cost: $745 per person+tax E-mail for a program information package.
