Service Description

The Paddle Canada Level 1 Sea Kayak Skills course is designed for paddlers ready to move beyond the basics and gain the confidence to head out on coastal day trips. This course transitions you from flat water to more dynamic environments, focusing on the technical skills and safety maneuvers needed to handle wind, waves, and the unexpected. We’ll start by refining your equipment knowledge and discussing how to plan a safe day on the water, including weather interpretation and navigation basics. Once afloat, the focus shifts to precision: mastering edge control, perfecting your bracing to stay upright, and learning efficient strokes that save your energy. A major highlight of the course is practicing assisted and solo re-entries, ensuring that if you do end up in the water, you have the skills to get back in and keep paddling. Training includes: - 14–16 hours of comprehensive, participant-focused instruction following the Paddle Canada Level 1 Sea Kayak Skills curriculum - Successful participants will receive the nationally recognized Paddle Canada Level 1 Sea Kayak Skills certification - Professional-grade sea kayaks, paddles, spray skirts, and PFDs (immersion wear available on a first-come, first-served basis) - Small group sizes to ensure a high level of safety, skill mastery, and personalized coaching What people are saying: "I would like to just take a moment to thank all the staff at Candlebox Kayaking for my past visit. The knowledge and experience that was shared with us during our sea kayak training was amazing. From being originally nervous of what I was capable of in my sea kayak, your program built the confidence to grow within this sport and I look forward to even higher training in the future. Thanks again for expanding my paddling abilities towards many more adventures along our coastline. - Shaun, FB review Minimum 3 participants
