Service Description

Experience this exciting aspect of our sport in a structured day clinic! For many, kayak surfing is a skill to develop to help safely launch and land from beaches with surf. For others, it is a skill to develop to play in the abundance of amazing surf that exists on our coastline. We'll start on the beach discussing how to stay safe in the surf and appropriate, helpful strokes, along with the associated proper technique. Demonstrations will be given by instructors of various ways to surf launch/land, and participants will have the opportunity to practice controlled launches and landings, one at a time. We'll then use various activities to understand and practice bracing (using strokes for support). After gaining confidence with bracing, we'll review the mechanics of surfing as well as the necessary positioning and timing needed to catch a wave. Once we're confident participants have put the pieces together, we'll organize ourselves to surf, one at a time. Training includes: - 6hrs of participant focused surf kayak skills training with Candlebox Kayaking's experienced, highly certified, expert coaches - High quality equipment including drysuits by Kokatat (on "first come/served basis"), helmets, spray skirts, and PFD's - Video feedback to aid in paddlers skill development What people are saying: “Matt took my wife and (I) out to learn how to properly surf in sea kayaks. We liked it so much, we booked an additional session the following day! His equipment is top notch and the use of dry suits made our experience that much more enjoyable. Highly recommended.” - Carl, TripAdvisor Minimum three participants per session.
